Freedom to Play

Hi all. Helle speaking today.

As you have probably noticed by now, I am an advocate for creating clear structures around the young child’s everyday life, as long as they are considered, loving and carefully thought out.

If you’d like, you can read our article on creating simple rhythms and routines right here.

However, it would be a total mistake to think that children need their entire day structured by activities implemented by adults.

When I was a child, I would play for hours and hours, and without ever being monitored by grown-ups. We climbed trees like there was no tomo

Thank you Helle. I meet you when in New Zealand and have been receiving your email newsletters. I have tried to slow down and incorporate a walk in nature each day. This is a lovely part of the day. Thank you for the sensible reminders of what is important!

Helle, thank you for your wonderful article on children and nature. Every day I see parents rushing their child, pushing toddlers (and older kids!) in strollers so that they can “get there” faster. Thank you for reminding us … slow down.
